Windmühle Bradford, Ottmarsbocholt, Germany

January 1, 2024

Owners: Jeannette und Alfred Bradford

Architect: Klaus Tombrock

Location: Ottmarsbocholt, Germany

Photography: Ulrike Meywald, Münster

Living in a monument: the windmill at Ottmarsbocholt was still used for grinding corn until the 1970s. Today, the listed building is home to Jeannette and Alfred Bradford. A place with its own special charm: the 200 square metres extend over four floors, and the walls are round — with no corners or edges at all. A plain table, leather sofa and metal shelves now stand under the wooden ceiling with solid beams where horse-drawn carriages used to be loaded with sacks of flour. Purism in the bathroom is provided by the washbasin and bath from our design line ART. A statement to timeless functionalism.

In keeping with the ancient architecture of “Arequipeña School” in midst of the Andes under a landscape marked by three volcanos —  Misti, Pichu Pichu and Chachani — eleven exclusive rooms with walls clad of white volcanic stoneware appointed with handcrafted furnishings, objects and textiles in natural muted tones, along with exquisitely integrated freestanding fixtures from the LUX line — LUX SHAPE bath and washstand.

By the sea: The hotel is situated on a dune and offers a wide view over the broad beaches of the Dutch coast of Zeeland: unspoilt, open, quiet. A landscape that gives a sense of freedom and serenity at any time of year. Strandhotel Cadzand is also the home of Michelin star chef Sergio Herrmann. Exquisite cuisine is successfully combined with the stylish interior design of the Dutch design studio Studio Piet Boon. Muted colours, natural materials, fine fabrics and selected details create a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. On The Mark

January 1, 2024

Design: Jacques Grange

Location: New York City

Photographs: The Mark Hotel

Legendary designer Jacques Grange revamped the interiors of the Mark Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in 2009, and in 2015 finished putting his spin on the 12,000-square-foot penthouse suite—the largest in the U.S. The bi-level suite contains five bedrooms, six baths, two powder rooms, a conservatory, a library lounge, a dining room, and a rooftop terrace. There’s also a chef’s kitchen and living area which can be transformed into a full-size ballroom.

Mr. Grange designed most of the furnishings specifically for The Mark. “The penthouse is in total synergy with the hotel’s aesthetic on an even grander, majestic scale,” he told AD. “While the space is the ultimate in high-end luxury, it was important for it to feel like a home away from home.”

The Mark turned to BIS BIS and The Un-Gyve Limited Group to produce bespoke furnishings and realize the designer’s vision with precision and refinement.
